Kelsey Wins First Game As UW Women’s B-Ball Coach

When Bobbie Kelsey became the new women’s basketball coach at the University of Wisconsin, she said “You can win national championships here.”

On Thursday, Kelsey took her first step toward that as Wisconsin’s head coach by beating UW-Whitewater 70-55 in an exhibition game at the Kohl Center in Madison.

The start of the game wasn’t exactly to the new coach’s liking. UW-Whitewater’s Kaitlyn Thill put in her own missed shot to give the Warhawks a 17-10 lead.

But Wisconsin went on a 20-0 run, with Morgan Paige hitting a couple of threes along the way.

“I told them they have to look at this game with a critical eye and don’t beat themselves up and certainly learn from it,” said Kelsey.” Because we have to play a lot better.”

UW will get their chance to do that Sunday when they play UW-Parkside in another exhibition game at the Kohl Center. Tipoff is at 1 p.m.
