Karen L. Clark

MONONA-Karen L. Clark, age 63, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013. She was born on Jan. 2, 1950, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Woodrow W. Urban and Bess Knedlik. Karen married Kenneth Clark on July 31, 1971. She graduated from Marion College with a R.N. degree. She then received her master’s degree from UW-Madison. Karen worked at UW Hospital and Clinics as a staff nurse, in the operating room as an OR nurse, went on to teach at the School of Nursing, and then worked in clinics management. She left the UW to help take care of her granddaughter. She later worked at Meriter Hospital as the perioperative instructor until Dec. 31, 2012. Karen served in the U.S. Army during Desert Storm. She was also a deaconess and very active member at Buckeye Evangelical Free Church in Madison. Karen enjoyed gardening, knitting, sewing, and most of all, spending time with her daughter and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Ken; daughter, Tracy (Curt) (Serdynski) Clark; grandchildren, Savannah and Aksel Serdynski; brother, Alan (Bridget) Urban; and five nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, with the Rev. Cal Steiner presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until the time of service on Monday. Memorials may be made to Door Creek Church to benefit the Boomerang Store.
