K-9 tracks man who fled from hospital to nearby shed, police say

A Madison police K-9 helped officers track down a man who fled from a hospital after being taken there by police for expressing paranoid thoughts, police said.

Officers were sent around 10:40 p.m. March 22 to an address on Curry Parkway for a person calling 911 with paranoid thoughts who was having difficulty communicating his address, according to a release.

Officers found the man and took him to a hospital to get medical treatment, but the man fled the hospital later that night, officials said. The man jumped off two elevated platforms, both more than 20 feet high, and ran away from the hospital screaming.

Several officers and police K-9 Jagger tracked the man to a nearby shed, where he was taken into protective custody and returned to the hospital.

“This could have been a tragic ending. Because of the excellent work by all of the officers involved, including Officer Disch and K-9 Jagger, this young man will be getting the treatment he needs,” officials said in the release.
