JOSEPH “JOE” MARTIN ROWLAND

Madison – Joseph M. “Joe” Rowland, age 74, passed away on August 23, 2017 at home, surrounded by his family, after a valiant battle with cancer. Joe was born on October 14, 1942 to Mary (Keeley) Rowland and Joseph Rowland in Brooklyn, NY.
Joe spent four years in the US Air Force, stationed at Truax Field, when he met and married Rita Bigger in 1963. He attended the University of Wisconsin Madison, receiving a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. After a successful career in Wisconsin, Illinois and 20 years in California, Joe returned to Wisconsin to be closer to family. It was then, in 2008, he met up with an old friend, Susie Wegert. They were married on August 27, 2010 and spent their happy years traveling to Ireland, Italy, England and France. They also traveled extensively in the states, especially to California several times to visit old friends and family.
Joe is survived by his wife, Susie Wegert; three daughters, Lisa Rowland of Waunakee, Shannon (Dave) Bruns of Waunakee and Kelly Rowland of Stillwater MN; six grandchildren; and brother, John who resides in California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Mary.
Joe will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3pm on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N Sherman Ave, Madison, with Pastor Margo Martens presiding.
