Jonathan O’Connell

Jonathan O’Connell of Madison, Wisconsin, age 82, left his battle with dementia on Monday, August 29 in the loving care of Agrace Hospice House surrounded by his family. Jonathan was the third of five sons born in Poygan, Wisconsin on June 7, 1940, to Shirley (Covil) and Lester O’Connell.
After high school, Jon served in the US Army and went on to a career as a missionary servant traveling to Turkey and Germany to share his faith. He moved back to the US bringing his eight adopted children from five different countries to pastor in the Mazomanie area. Throughout his life he enjoyed a wide variety of interest, he was an avid skier and an adventurous traveler, taking several missionary trips throughout Europe with his growing family in tow. Through it all, his love for God and sharing the good news remained his passion.
He is survived by seven of his children, Michael O’Connell (Deb Rathermel) Madison, Oktay O’Connell, DeForest, Audry (Doug) Langeberg Omro, John (Linda) O’Connell, Oshkosh, Orhan (Krissi) O’Connell, Madison, Tina (Mike) Farist, Akron, Ohio, Rick (Michelle) O’Connell, Rhinelander, seventeen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His brothers Donald (Marlene) in Winneconne, David (Joyce) in Ripon and Wendell O’Connell in Florida. Ahead of him in heaven are his parents, one son, Timothy, and a brother Joe.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Fountain of Life Covenant Church, 633 W. Badger Rd, Madison. A visitation will be held on Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park.
