Jon Halstead

MIDDLETON-Jon A. Halstead, age 69, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 24, 2012. He was born on May 21, 1943, in Duluth, MN., the son of Robert and Mae Ellouise Halstead.
Jon was a graduate of Badger High School in Lake Geneva and attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War having proudly served his country in Thailand with the US Air Force. Jon was united in marriage to Marilyn Money in 1968. He earned his master’s degree in Education from UW Whitewater and taught high school speech at Bigfoot High School in Walworth for ten years. Jon and Marilyn then purchased the Barron Motel in Barron, WI which they ran together for the next 16 years. In 1998 they moved to Middleton where he worked for AFSCME until his retirement in 2009. Jon enjoyed science fiction, reading, watching movies and photography. He spent time during the last 8 years with Civil War re-enactments as a civilian throughout the state. Jon was a 25 year member of Kiwanis and a 35 year member of the Wisconsin Association of Parliamentarians, holding offices in both groups.
Jon is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; a son, Edward (Sarah Jean Harnell) Halstead and their son Kaleb Calvin Halstead; his mother, Mae Ellouise Halstead; two sisters, Sara (John) Pagels, Roberta (George) Knudtson; father –in-law, George Money; brother-in-law, Daniel (Bonalyn Barker) Money, several nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Halstead.
In honor of Jon’s wishes a celebration of his life will be held from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the Waterside Apts, 9151 Waterside Street, Middleton.
