John Waterman Minahan

WESTPORT/WAUNAKEE- John Waterman Minahan, age 63, of Westport passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born in Chippewa Falls, the son of Bert W. and Vivianne (Valentine) Minahan. John married Mary E. “Lisa” Lane on Sept. 6, 1980, at St. Charles Church in Chippewa Falls. He graduated from McDonell Central High School, in Chippewa Falls, in 1972. John attended UW Madison and later the UW Stout, graduating in 1978. He worked for Federal Industries in Belleville for 32 years, retiring as president of the company in Dec. 2016. John was an avid Badgers fan who knew how to throw an unforgettable tailgate party. He was a gifted athlete who played high school football and loved to downhill ski. John enjoyed the outdoors; his relaxation time was spent hunting, fishing, boating and golfing. John especially enjoyed spending time with his family at their cabin in Cable, Wis. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lisa; daughter, Mary (Phillip) Gantz; son, Daniel (BriAnna) Minahan; brothers, Daniel J. (Susie), Michael J., and Matthew P. (Cheri); grandchildren, Elise, William, and Genevieve Gantz; sisters-in-law, Carole Reich, and Janice Lane; and brothers-in-law, Leslie (Cindy) Lane, and Hudson (Amy) Lane. John was preceded in death by his parents; aunt, Anne Minahan; uncles, Dave (Mona) and Dick (Dee) Valentine; brother-in-law, William Lane; sister-in-law, Ellen Heyroth; and nephew Matthew Minahan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes St., Cross Plains, at 12 noon, on Friday, June 16, 2017. Burial will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will take place at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Friday. Memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend… he will be deeply missed.
