John Peter Martin Haberle

MADISON- John Peter Martin Haberle, age 70, of Fitchburg, formerly of Verona, passed away on Monday, Oct. 31, 2022, at UW Hospital in Madison. He was born at Methodist Hospital in Madison, on April 24, 1952, the son of John Lawrence Haberle and Wilma Helen (Ferris) Haberle.

John was a graduate of East High School in 1970 and the UW-Madison in 1974, with degrees in physical education and business. He taught elementary physical education in Northern Illinois and later changed to a career in business and worked at Ahrens Cadillac in Madison and later at Smith Motors in Fort Atkinson as a sales consultant and business manager.

John was active in several community and national causes. He enjoyed hosting cook outs at their home for his children’s sports teams. He was coach and agency manager for Verona Area Special Olympics with a highlight of coaching athletes at Special Olympics USA Games in Seattle, Wash. He volunteered for several years to serve food to seniors at the Fitchburg Senior Center and later was Vice President of Friends of Fitchburg Senior Center.

John was an avid golfer and enjoyed arranging golf outings with many of his golfing friends at golf courses around Madison and around Wisconsin. He attended several PGA golf championships in several states and volunteered at the American Family Insurance Championship at University Ridge in Madison. John was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the UW Badgers and Green Bay Packers.

John is survived by his current partner in life, Cheryl Hamilton and her sons, Chad and Shane (Krista) Hamilton; former wife and mother of his children, Linda Haberle; children, Kathleen (Eric) Bisek of New Prague, Minn., and Jonathan Haberle of Middleton, Wis.; two grandchildren; nephew, Steven (Sue) Brandon; and nieces, Julie (Tom) Rode, Katy (companion, Matthew) Conroy and Amy (Brian) Robson.

He was preceded in death by his father, John in 1952; mother, Wilma in 1985; half-sisters, Colleen (L. Knox) Brandon and Patricia Roe; half-brother, Thomas Haberle; nephew, Patrick Brandon; and his grandparents.
