John Marty

John Frederick Marty, age 79, of New Glarus passed away on Friday, August 11, 2017 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born on January 13, 1938 in Monroe, WI to his parents Herman and Emma (Schneider) Marty. John attended the Legler Valley School where he learned to speak English. He graduated from New Glarus High School in 1956. After high school, John entered the United States Army where he served for three years. On May 20, 1959, he was united in marriage to Arlene Anderson at the First United Church of Christ in Belleville. John and Arlene farmed outside of New Glarus and he also worked at the General Motors plant in Janesville. He retired from Federal Industries in Belleville. John was very proud of his Swiss heritage. He had served on the Wilhelm Tell Board and acted in the Tell play, guided for 27 years at the Swiss Historical Village and served on the museum board, and performed with the Mannerchor. He was also a charter member and the current commander of the New Glarus AMVETS post #69 and sang in the Swiss Church choir where he was a member. John was especially passionate and proud of his family, community, and country.
John is survived by his wife Arlene, son Eric (Tiffany), Troy, TX, daughter Amber (Tom Snyder) Marty, Madison, WI and grandson Jordan Vanden Wymelenberg, Madison, WI. John is further survived by his sister Barbara Marty, sisters-in-law Sonya Mezera, Ellen (Dave) Miller, Marilyn (Paul) Lokken, and Joene Marty, brother-in-law Ken (Diane) Anderson, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Rodney, brothers-in-law Darrell Anderson and Dale Anderson, and sisters-in-law Doris Gallagher and Cheryl Burkhalter.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 Fifth Ave., New Glarus, WI with the Rev. Kim Moeller officiating. Military honors will be accorded.
A gathering of relatives and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Ave., New Glarus, WI and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the church.
