John L. “Jack” Murphy

Barneveld – John L. “Jack” Murphy, age 79 of Barneveld, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Saturday, June 18, 2022.
He was born on September 28, 1942, in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Dodgeville, Wisconsin, the son of Marlin John and Gretta Marie (Cushman) Murphy. He married Elsie Jane Duesler on June 21, 1975, at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Ridgeway.
Jack grew up on the family farm north of Ridgeway and graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1960. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends at his property in Cowdrey, CO. He loved the mountains, hunting and fishing. Jack also loved to mow the lawn, paint, ride his ATV and snowmobile race in his younger years. He was always tinkering with something mechanical around the farm.
Jack was a union painter for Livesey Painting Inc., for over 40 years. He belonged to the Barneveld American Legion #433, Barneveld Advancement Association, Barneveld Trail Eagles Snowmobile Club and Wildlife Forever ATV Club.
Jack is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elsie Jane; children John (Dee Hunter), and Jared. Brothers Donald Murphy, Dean Murphy, Douglas (Peggy) Murphy and his sister Lou Ann Wubbenhorst and well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters-in-law; John Wubbenhorst, Delores Murphy, Shirley Murphy, Tom & Shirley Duesler.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Upland Hills Health, especially Dr. Jodi McGraw and the Upland Hills Hospice team.
There will be a celebration of life at Barneveld Legion Hall, 102 Wood St., Barneveld on Sunday, July 10, 2022, from 1 – 5 pm. Military Honors will be at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers or other acts of kindness, donations may be made to Upland Hills Hospice, Barneveld School Scholarship Fund, Barneveld American Legion or a charity of your choice.
