John Henry Deegan

STOUGHTON – John Henry Deegan, age 93, of Stoughton, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2022, at Skaalen Nursing and Rehab. He was born on Dec. 17, 1928, in Janesville, the son of William and Madelyn (Kelly) Deegan.
John went to mechanic trade school and served in the U.S. Army in 1951. He married Phyllis Weaver on Aug. 15, 1953. John worked for the Dane County Highway Department, owned and operated Madison Delivery Service with his brother, Bob, and worked for the Town of Dunn.
John’s family was most important to him. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and had many faithful friends. John was interested in old cars and tractors. His family enjoyed taking him for rides throughout southern Wisconsin. He was willing to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it. Forever a storyteller.
John is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughters, Patricia (Lowell) Hanson, Peggy (David) Bursack, Pamela (Rick) Helstad and Paula (the late, Tim) Davis; brother, Richard Deegan; sisters, Joyce Ann Vale and Micki Purnell; grandsons, Matt (Tia) Bursack, Nick (Jenny) Helstad and David (Stacy) Hanson; and granddaughters, Melissa (Geoffrey) Whitaker, Sarah (Caleb) Stormer, Leah (Josh) Rader, Jessica (Bruce) Coursen, Naomi (John) Seid, Jennifer (Steve) Heckman, Angela (Jeremy) Mills and Natalie Erickson; 29 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.
A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022. Burial will be held at Town of Dunn Burying Ground. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
