John Burmeister

MADISON / HancocK – On Monday, Oct. 10, 2022, John Burmeister, age 66, lost his short but courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by family. Born on July 8, 1956, in Madison, Wis., he was the son of Robert Burmeister and Elizabeth (Herheim) Burmeister.
John graduated from La Follette High School in 1974 and attended Concordia University. In his free time, John enjoyed golfing, boating and scuba diving. He loved to spend time camping, traveling and being with friends and family. He and his wife helped to raise money for the Rockin4ALS charity, which was near and dear to them and his Drum Corp family.
John was a joy to be around and knew how to make everyone feel like family. His smile was infectious, and his hugs were legendary. He was laid back and easy to talk to and was a wonderful husband and dedicated father, not only to his own children but also to many of their friends. He made us feel loved and special and losing him will leave an everlasting hole in the lives of all who knew him.
John is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 40 years, Susan; his two children, Jessica (Nathan) Pahl and Patrick (Mary Hanks); and sisters, Vikki (Jerry) Kennedy and Sandi (Dave) Webster. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at Gunderson East Funeral AND Cremation Care, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12 noon on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2022. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating blood or platelets, or donating money or time to your favorite charity. Please make sure your people know how loved they are, as life is too short not to tell them as often as possible.
