John A. Anderson

John A. Anderson, age 82 of Muscoda died peacefully at his home May 8, 2012 after a five year courageous battle with cancer.

John was born in 1929 the youngest of four children to Herman and Ethel Anderson in Barron, WI. He graduated from Menomonie High School in 1947. He proudly served in the US Army Military Intelligence division from 1948-1952. He received both his Bachelor of Arts and Masters from UW Stout in 1955 and 1959 respectively. He chose to become an educator and his first teaching assignment took him to Goodman, WI from 1955-1959. John came to Muscoda in the fall of 1959 and spent the next 28 years teaching Industrial Arts at Riverdale High School. He was well known for his expert woodworking and cabinetry skills and built various homes in the area. He married Maxine Grindeman on June 13, 1987. John retired from teaching in 1988 and enjoyed his retirement years enjoying his many hobbies. He spent summers tending to his garden and fruit trees. He and his wife, Maxine enjoyed traveling and fishing. Much of his time was spent in his home woodshop creating beautiful pieces of furniture for his wife and children. John’s proudest accomplishment was being a Dad to his five children. He left a legacy of what a good man and father is: humble, hard working, unselfish, loving and a man of character and integrity.

John and his family would like to thank Home Health United Hospice for the wonderful care he received during his last months. Thanks also to the many friends, family and pastors who stopped by or sent encouraging words to him. Our beloved husband, father and grandfather will be forever missed.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 11, 2012 at the UNITED CHURCH OF MUSCODA, PRESBYTERIAN, 402 North Second Street, Muscoda, 53573. Pastors Ramona Orton and Roger Koester will officiate.

Burial will be in the Avoca Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be accorded by the Leslie J. Lee American Legion Post 85.

Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until service time. Memorials may be made in John’s name to Home Health United Hospice, Carbone Cancer Center or United Church of Muscoda Presbyterian. The Godager Pratt Funeral Home of Muscoda is assisting the family with arrangements.
