Joan Wixom

Joan Marie Wixom, age 81, of Janesville, died on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital. She was born in Janesville on January 8, 1931, the daughter of Donald and Rose (Fanning) McCann.

She graduated from Janesville High School in 1950, and had been a Janesville resident all of her life. Joan married J. Richard “Dick” Wixom in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Janesville on May 3, 1952. She and her husband, Dick owned Blackhawk Airways, Inc. at the Rock County Airport. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, past president of the Catholic Women’s Club of Janesville, past board member of Zonta International, board member of the Elks Ladies, a member of the Janesville Women’s Club and the Red Hat Society. Joan enjoyed entertaining, traveling, playing bridge and some golf. Her quick Irish wit and storytelling will be remembered by many.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years of marriage, Dick Wixom; daughter, Renee (Scott) Cassidy of Eau Claire; son, Larry (Susan) Wixom of Champaign, IL; daughter-in-law, Nancy Wixom; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Patty (Ralph) Sherman of Menominee Falls, WI; other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Kevin; 4 brothers: James McCann, Robert McCann, Thomas McCann and Allen McCann; and sister, Dorothy McCartney.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon on Monday, June 4, 2012, at ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Janesville with Rev. Stephen J. Umhoefer officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY. Lasting memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare, Inc. or St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Janesville.
