Joan Babcock

Joan Babcock, 76, passed away January 9, 2013 at Fair View Nursing Home in Mauston, Wisconsin surrounded by her loving family. Joan was born 24 April 1936 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Arthur and Marie (Lorenz) Rinzel and grew up in Germantown, Wisconsin. She graduated from St Mary’s Springs Academy, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. She married Floyd Babcock, September 3, 1955 at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. After their marriage they lived in the Oconomowoc area and moved to Mauston in 1970. Joan always loved children and ran a small day care from her home for many years. A lot of young people in the Mauston area fondly remember the good days at Joan’s house.

She is survived by her husband, Floyd Babcock of Mauston; children Suzanne (Michael) Swan, Mauston; Mary Linda (Tom) Garity, San Diego, California; William (Christina) Babcock, Suitland, Maryland; Karen (Brent) Jurkowski, Mauston; brothers Father Jerome Rinzel, Theresa, Wisconsin; Daniel (Anne) Rinzel, Alexandria, Virginia; Steven (Pat) Rinzel, Germantown, Wisconsin; and sister Mary (King) Riffel, West Bend, Wisconsin. She is further survived by 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. In addition there are many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

There will be a Visitation at St Patrick’s Church, Mauston on January 13, 2013 starting at 2 pm with a prayer service at 3 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 14, 2013 at St Mathias Mission Chapel, New Fane, Wisconsin. Visitation will start at 12:30 p.m. until time of service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
