Jean E. Lawson

MADISON/OREGON-Jean E. Lawson passed away on the evening of Tuesday, July 3, 2012. She was born on February 29, 1924, the daughter of Arthur and Hazel Mickelson.

Jean was raised in Black Earth and graduated from Black Earth High School. She was married to Marvin Matz on April 7, 1945. The couple had 3 daughters, Marlene Gruendler of Madison, Colleen Cagle of Killeen, Texas, and Sherry Tobin of San Francisco, Calif. In 1959, Jean married Edmund Lawson. The family moved to Oregon, WI where Jean and Ed owned and operated The Pit Stop Bar for many years. Her later career path took her to St. Mary’s Hospital for seventeen years. With retirement, Jean enjoyed frequent trips to Ho Chunk, playing cards, crocheting, reading, and traveling. She was an avid Packer, Badger, and Cubs fan.

In addition to her daughters, Jean is survived by 3 grandchildren, Laura Gruendler, Michael Gruendler, and Lukas Graham. She was preceded in death by both Marvin and Ed as well as her parents, sister, brother, and 2 grandchildren.

A private family gathering is planned to celebrate her life. The family would like to extend their thanks to Four Winds Manor in Verona and St. Jude’s Hospice for the care of their mother and the support given to the family.
