Madison’s feline-themed coffee shop Java Cat will temporarily relocate to Lien Road in late fall.

The coffee shop will be open at 4221 Lien Road, the former storefront of Legacy House Imports, while the Monona Drive location is rebuilt, the founder and owner Renee Raspiller says.

“It’s time to let the … cat … (sorry) out of the bag! We are excited to let you know we’ve found a location to move into this fall, while our current home is being rebuilt,” Java Cat wrote on its Facebook page.

Threshold Development Group plans to build a mixed-use apartment building that will include Java Cat once the building is finished sometime in 2024. Raspiller expects to move to the temporary location sometime in October.

Until the fall move, Java Cat continues to serve customers at 3918 Monona Drive.

“I plan on staying there [on Monona Drive] until the last possible minute,” Raspiller says.

Raspiller will keep the full menu of coffee, gelato, soups and sandwiches at the new location, so you won’t miss out on any gelato flavors or coffee creations. Raspiller will also keep using Just Coffee for its caffeinated beverages.

“We may even add a few things,” Raspiller says.

While the east side location won’t have a drive-thru, there will be more outdoor seating for customers, which is a plus for Raspiller.

“We’re pretty excited about the new space,” she says. “It’s on a nice lot that’s got a lot of green space outback.”

Java Cat, which opened in 2005, will move back into a larger location on Monona Drive, but likely not until 2024 when redevelopment is completed.
