Janesville pharmacist gets 2 years prison for $740K prescription fraud

JANESVILLE, Wis. — A former pharmacy owner in Janesville was sentenced to prison, according to the state Department of Justice in a news release Wednesday.
Jeffrey Anderson, acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, said 55-year-old Mark Johnson was sentenced to two years in federal prison for health care fraud.
According to the release, Johnson pleaded guilty to the charge in May.
Johnson, who was the pharmacist and owner of Kealey Pharmacy and Home Care Inc., defrauded Medicare and Medicaid from about January 2008 to March 2014. Johnson submitted false and fraudulent claims to Medicare and Medicaid obtaining reimbursement for medication that was not provided to beneficiaries.
On occasion, Johnson also created false prescription orders using doctors’ identities, then submitted claims for reimbursement for the false orders. Johnson also lied in his responses to an audit by the state Department of Health Services of paid Medicaid claims in 2013.
Officials said Johnson obtained about $740,000 in fraudulent prescription reimbursements during his scheme.
