Janesville man suspected of child sex crimes

A Janesville man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of child sex crimes.

The Green County Sheriff’s Office said Brian C. Schmoldt, 50, was arrested by the Janesville Police Department just before noon on Sunday in regard to an incident that occurred in the Town of Mount Pleasant.

Sheriff Mark Rohloff told News 3 a 16-year-old received sexually explicit Snapchat photos from Schmoldt. He said they are known to each other, and that they had no personal contact.

Rohloff said the incident happened on Thursday and was reported on Saturday.

Schmoldt was arrested on suspicion of causing a child to view sexual activity, exhibiting harmful material to a child and exposing genitals to a child. He was taken to the Green County Jail. He’s scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
