Janesville hospital breaks ground on addition for new oncology services

St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital broke ground on a new addition for radiation oncology services Tuesday, according to a release.
The single-story, 8,750-square-foot facility will be built out from the existing infusion area at the back of the Dean Clinic side of the campus, officials said. The building will have views of the healing garden.
“We are really excited about the new services this expansion allows us to bring to our patients,” St. Mary’s Hospital President Kerry Swanson said in the release. “They include a state-of-the-art linear accelerator called the True Beam. It combines both imaging and treatment technologies in a single machine that delivers high energy radiation therapy with pinpoint accuracy.”
The hospital will also be adding computerized tomography to better aid in planning patient treatment, as well as additional clinical specialists to its team, officials said. Hospital officials hope to open the new facility by the summer of 2016.
“We hope the community shares our excitement,” Swanson said. “This expansion is part of our ongoing commitment to adapt and expand to the changing health needs of our community, and embody our mission to provide exceptional health care for all.”
