Jane Doe found in Oregon state 45 years ago could be from near Great Lakes

MADISON, Wis. — Jane Doe found in the state of Oregon in 1971 may have lived along the border of United States and Canada, according to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

The NCMEC is working with Josephine County in Oregon and the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office to identify a female who was found dead more than 45 years ago.

The female, who is believed to have been between 14 and 25 years old, was found in 1971 near a campsite in Cave Junction, Oregon, officials said.

According to a release, new forensic isotope testing indicates she may have spent time in the northeast corner of the United States, moving west into the Great Lakes and even further west all the way to Washington state and Oregon.

Officials said she may have lived or grown up anywhere north along the line between the United States and Canada.

Jane Doe was found wearing a pink and beige waist-length coat, a tan long-sleeved turtleneck blouse with a neckline zipper, a pair of Wrangler jeans (size misses 13-14 slim) and a pair of square-toed brown leather shoes with gold buckles, according to a release. She was also wearing a mother-of-pearl ring with the letters “A L” scratched into the surface and coins dated 1970.
