James R. Kraus

Janesville – James (Jim) R. Kraus, age 77, of Janesville, died Friday, June 23, 2017, at home.

He was born on January 10, 1940 in Marshfield, WI, the son of Louis and Agnes (Gemske) Kraus. Jim married Irene G. Schill on June 10, 1959 in Auburndale, WI. He was employed at GM, retiring in 1989.

Jim was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church for 52 years. He volunteered his time running the food stand at the Rock River Thresheree, delivering Meals on Wheels, and selling Fall Festival raffle tickets. Jim was known for his love and passion for sports. He played softball, started the basketball program, and coached for St. John’s. For 31 years, he was the announcer and scorekeeper for Craig, Parker, and Legion baseball games. Every year since 1969, one could find Jim sitting in Section 108 at the Wisconsin State High School Basketball Tournament, which he enjoyed going to with his children, grandchildren, and many extended family members.

He is survived by: his wife, Irene; 8 children: Allan (Lauren) Kraus, of Oregon, WI, Cheryl (Ken) Pavlik and Kevin (Kelly) Kraus both of Janesville, Julie (John) Tropp, of Woodstock, IL, James Kraus of Dane, WI, Linda (David) DeMott, of Milton, Susan (Michael) Fraser, of Janesville, and John (Catrina) Kraus, of Linden, MI; 22 grandchildren: Kirstie and Kelsey Kraus, Christie, Tricia, Melissa (Joe) Benson, Stephanie, Abbie Potter, Aaron (Jen), Adam (fiance, Shalyn), Austin, and Aidan Kraus, Briana (Adam) Cahill, Zach (Sarah) Tropp, Kaitlyn (Josh) Wanta, Sarah, Ben Kraus, Crystal and Derek DeMott, Steven and Sara Fraser, Tyler and Karley Kraus, and 3 great-grandchildren: Zekodi Allen, Colin Cahill, and Wyatt Wanta. His 7 siblings: Louis (Dorothy) Kraus, Aggie Rehlinger, Virginia Stauber, Jerry (Jean) Kraus, Tom (Margaret) Kraus, Marilyn (Rich) Wagner, Ken (Mary) Kraus, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Lorraine (Richard) Breu, Sonny (Priscilla) Schill, Art (Janet) Schill, Albert (Fran) Schill, Ken (Annette) Schill, Bernice (Ron) McDermott, Leroy (Cheryl) Schill, Carol (Dan) Mancl, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law, 8 siblings and a granddaughter, Lindsay DeMott.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 3:00pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, June 26, 2017 at Schneider Funeral Home, Janesville. In lieu of flowers, we will be doing a memorial to honor our husband, dad, and grandpa.
