James Ford Sheridan

James Ford Sheridan, age 81, passed away on January 20, 2016 in Madison, Wisconsin. Jim was born January 17, 1935 in Duluth, Minnesota to Ford James and Ida Irene Sheridan (Smith). He grew up tough in Superior, Wisconsin and attended Superior High School, served in the Army 1955 until 1958. While attending UW-Superior he played football, received a degree in Liberal Arts, and later a Master’s in Education. While in college he met and married the love of his life, Barbara Bjur on January 19, 1963 in Superior. His life was dedicated to young people as a guidance counselor, teacher and coach in Tomahawk and Omro, Wisconsin. Jim started the Tomahawk Youth Hockey program in 1968 and was instrumental growing the youth program and coaching the high school team, until 1974 when he accepted a job at Omro High School, and spent the rest of his career as a guidance counselor. Jim will be remembered as a positive influence in the lives of many students in his over 30 years as a teacher, coach, and guidance counselor. He was a lover of music, a longtime member of Saxeville St. John’s Lutheran Church choir and Winnebagoland Barbershop Chorus. Jim also enjoyed camping, throwing horseshoes, a cold beer, wintering in Arizona and was a lifelong Packer fan. Jim is survived by three sons, Ford Sheridan (Deana Turner) of Waunakee, Patrick Sheridan (Cheryl) of Stratford; David Sheridan of Tomahawk; grandchildren Aaron Pospyhalla, Carson and Magnus Sheridan; and a sister Phyllis Newkirk. Jim was preceded in death by his wife Barbara; and his siblings Patricia, Evelyn, Ronald, Terrance and Frank.

Services will be Thursday, January 28th at 11:00am, at St John’s Lutheran Church in Saxeville, WI.
