James A. Riter

James A. Riter, age 88 of Gays Mills, died peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 3, 2012. He was born on August 5, 1923 in the Haney township to William and Sylvia (Nicholson) Riter. James farmed most of his life and also worked at State Nursery and the canning factory. He enjoyed fishing, boating and family gatherings.
He is survived by two sisters: Annie Pittsley of Boscobel and Helen Shaw of Muscoda; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters: Clara Miller, Hazel Connor, Opal Evans-Adkins, Grace Silvers and Mary Riter; his brothers-in-law: Virgil Pittsley, Darwin Miller, Clarence Connor, Louie Silvers, James Shaw, Edward Evans, and Merton Adkins.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home (formerly Dommersnaes-Bertram) in Gays Mills. Pastor Scott Jacobs of the Apostolic Lighthouse Church in Prairie du Chien will officiate with burial in the Haney Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday after 12:00 noon at the Vosseteig Funeral Home (formerly Dommersnaes-Bertram) in Gays Mills.
