Jack N. Straus
MADISON- Jack N. Straus, age 87, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 15, 2013 at his home. He was born Sept. 20, 1925 in Sheboygan, to Jacob and Julia (Etzkorn) Straus. As the hardest working man his family ever knew, he now finally gets to take a break with his creator.
On May 3, 1947, Jack was united in marriage to Violet Lehr in Sheboygan.
He managed the Milwaukee Cheese company until it closed and continued his passion with the food business by starting and operating his own. Jack was just a phone call away and always there for his friends and his loving family. He never judged a single soul and his infectious “Jack-O-Lantern” smile lit up any room. Jack was a member of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II, and was also the proudest member of the 2011 Badger Honor Flight. He is a true American hero who loved his family, his faith, and most of all his beautiful wife.
Jack is survived by his wife Violet (Vi); three daughters, Lynn Dombrowicki, Cheryl Straus and Bonnie (Jim) Daggett; grandchildren, Jason, Jenny (Elliot), Brian (Rebecca), Nicole (Adam), Sean (Betsy), Christopher (Amanda) and Sarah (Rick), Shane; 11 great grandchildren; and sister, Marilyn Straus. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Steve Straus.
Funeral services will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Rd., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, with Father Kent Schmitt presiding. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, with military honors to take place. Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday.
