Iowa County Med Flight satellite center added

Fire chief: Man fell off Stoughton building; MedFlight responds

For the first time in its 31-year history, UW Health’s Med Flight added a satellite in southwest Wisconsin to keep up with the high demand of emergency calls.

Med Flight Medical Director Ryan Wubben said as many as a third of the helicopter’s calls are to the southwest corner of the state, due in part to the lack of paramedic services in the area.

“Looking at the map and looking at our service area, this was an area that had the need,” he said.

A second Med Flight has been up and running at the Iowa County Airport outside Mineral Point since the beginning of May. It is housed in a 2,000 sq. ft. facility and staffed 24/7.

“Places like Lancaster and PDC and Potosi and places we go to not infrequently – Highland and other places – are that much closer,” Wubben said.
