MADISON-Ione Frances (Simonson, nee Falch) Peschl, age 88, passed away Monday, June 26, 2017.

Many knew her by her nickname, Penny. Ione was born July 1, 1928, in Madison, to Alex and Bessie (Dyer) Falch. She attended Madison East High School and until her recent illness enjoyed lunching with classmates.

Ione married Vernon Simonson on June 30, 1946. After Vernon’s death, she married Edward Peschl on May 3, 1969. Ed and Ione moved to Las Vegas in 1977. After Ed’s death in 2007, Ione moved back to Madison.

Ione’s first job was at the Red Dot Potato Factory when she was 16. After that she worked at Carmen’s dress shop on the capital square, and then managed Bormann’s Apparel at Northgate Shopping Center. In Las Vegas, Ione volunteered at the Desert Springs Hospital. She worked at their gift shop, dress shop and drug stores. She provided children’s day care in her home.

Back in Madison, Ione lived at The Gardens Independent Living with her beloved cat, Baybee, where she volunteered for and organized a variety of activities. She especially enjoyed playing cards, Wii bowling, and Skit Night. Ione was a good friend to residents there over many years.

Ione is survived by her children, Dennis Simonson and DiAnn (Barry) Lawson; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; her brother, Dick (Helen) Falch; and sister, Iretta (Anthony) Pullara. Ione was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Vernon Simonson and Edward Peschl; and brothers, Alex Jr. and Bill Falch.

A private memorial service will be held at Gunderson Funeral and Cremation Care in Monona.

In lieu of flowers or memorial gifts her family suggests a donation in her honor to a humane shelter or other charity.
