Illinois officials warn of dog-snatching scheme

Authorities in southern Illinois are warning area residents of a dog-snatching scheme.

Perry County Sheriff Steve Bareis told KMOV-TV Friday that dogs in Pinckneyville, Illinois, have been taken by a pair of men in a white pickup truck.

The vehicle says “animal control” and the men, posing as dog catchers, scout for purebred dogs during the day and return to steal the pets at night. The dogs are sold for quick cash, the sheriff said.
