WOODMAN, Wis. — Four Illinois men have been convicted stemming from a deer poaching incident in Grant County in late December, the county’s sheriff’s office said Wednesday.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. on December 26 on County Highway K in the town of Woodman. In a news release, the sheriff’s office said it received a complaint of someone shooting deer after legal hunting hours.

A witness gave a deputy a description of a vehicle with an Illinois license plate, which law enforcement officials stopped in Fennimore. Misbah Syed, 49, of Naperville, Illinois, admitted to using the headlights to help shoot a whitetail doe on private property after hunting hours, the sheriff’s office said on December 27.
