Hudson School District Will Buy Former Dog Track
Voters in the Hudson School District have agreed to buy a former dog racing track to meet a growing need for classroom space.
Unofficial returns from Tuesday’s referendum show voters strongly supporting the purchase of the St. Croix Meadows Greyhound Racing Park for about $8 million.
The district plans to build a new school on the 126-acre site to meet space needs for grades 6 to 12.
The $40 million dog track opened in 1991 and closed in 2001 after losing as much as $7 million a year.
Enrollment at the middle school in the Hudson district, located just east of Minnesota’s Twin Cities, is over capacity, district leaders said. Hudson High School is expected to reach capacity next year.
