Hubert “Hubie” G. Heins

Hubert “Hubie” G. Heins, 84, of Belmont, Wisconsin, died on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at Agrace Hospice, Fitchburg, after a courageous battle with cancer. Hubert was born on October 4, 1937 in Belmont Township, son of August “Gus” and Bertha (Kinch) Heins. He was united in marriage to Cleo Gregory in Cuba City, Wisconsin, on June 2, 1962. She preceded him in death on June 29, 1993. Hubie was later united in marriage to Susanne Nodorft on January 28, 1995 at Peace Lutheran Church, Belmont. Hubert was a lifetime member of Peace Lutheran Church in Belmont. He farmed in Belmont his entire life and was proud to own a Century Family Farm. After retiring, he started working for his neighbor, Homer Bockhop, and enjoyed helping him for nearly 25 years.
Hubie enjoyed watching horse pulls and Brewers baseball, traveling with Susanne for many years to watch the Brewers play spring training in Arizona. He and Sue followed the Hometown Talent Baseball League. He enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre and Smear with his many friends, both in the mornings at the Heins Pool Hall and in the evenings with his family. He enjoyed a beer or two after a long day’s work, especially if it was accompanied by a lively card game.
He is survived by his wife, Susanne of Belmont, sister, Gladys Bell of Portage, daughter Janet Heins (fiancé Tom Smith) of Germantown, Jeanne (Uriah) Carpenter of Oregon, Wis., grandchildren David (Augie) Borcherding, of Germantown and Avery Carpenter, of Madison, brothers-in-law Dennis (Cindy) Nodorft of Florida, Craig (Chris) Nodorft of Fennimore, brothers-in-law Curtis (Janice) Olson and Noel Olson of Florida, Kevin (Gail) Olson of Colorado, sisters-in-law Jeanette Nodorft of Cuba City and Cathy Nodorft of Potosi, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law, his infant daughter, Lori Lynn, sisters-in-law Donna Garvey and Diane Murphy, brothers-in-law Ronald Nodorft, Duane Nodorft, Steven Bell, Robert Birkett, and sisters-in-law Chloe Birkett and Nanette Olson.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, September 19, 2022 at Peace Lutheran Church, Belmont. Rev. Gus Barnes will officiate. Burial will be at the Belmont Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, September 18, 2022 from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, and will continue on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
