Hubert Lins

SAUK CITY – Hubert A. Lins, age 100 years and 116 days, passed on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, surrounded by family at St. Mary’s Hospital, Madison, due to complications of congestive heart failure. Hubert was born on June 1, 1922, in rural Spring Green, Town of Bear Creek, Wis., son of Henry and Mary (Reik) Lins. He married Velma Meyer on June 15, 1948, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Plain, Wis. Together they shared 55 years of marriage prior to Velma’s passing in 2004.

Hubert was a very religious, devoted Catholic. Attending Mass and devotions and praying the rosary were important aspects of his life. He enjoyed traveling, being a Florida and Arizona snowbird and, more recently, rides of remembrance to the country to see how the crops were doing. He was an avid euchre player and enjoyed playing cards and games with his daughters and their families.

Survivors include his five daughters, Sharon (John) Esser, Linda Lins, Janice (Mike) Klar, Mary Sue Klun and Lisa (Richard) Denu; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; siblings, Lucy Rooney, Arlene (Steven) Meise and David (Carol) Lins; sisters-in-law, Glenda Lins, Karen Lins and Kathy Lins; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary; step-mother, Anna Hetzel Lins; wife, Velma; son, Dennis; son-in-law, Joseph Klun; three grandchildren, Melissa Denu, Christopher Klar and Nathan Klun; sisters, Genevieve (Sister Marilyn) Lins, Colleta (Elmer) Hying, Gertrude (Joe) Korbach and Rita (Dorman) Richard; brothers, Gerald, Eugene (Colleen), LeRoy, Paul, Roman (Fran), Harold, Reginald, Fred “Fritz” and Michael (Betty Jo) Lins; and in-laws, William Rooney, Wesley (Laura) Meyer, Merton Meyer, Norman Meyer, Ernest (Mildred) Meyer and Elmer Jr. (Dorothy) Meyer.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital for the loving care Hubert received.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. THOMAS AQUINAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 602 Everglade Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 30, 2022, with Father Bart Timmerman and Msgr. Gerard Healy concelebrating. Visitation will be held at the church from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, and also from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Friday. Burial will be held Friday at 3:30 p.m. at St. Luke’s Catholic Cemetery in Plain.
