Heat closes Grant County school early Friday

LANCASTER, Wis. — A school district in Grant County will be closing early Friday because of heat.
A Lancaster Community School District official said the elementary school will close at 1:15 p.m., and the high and middle schools will close at 1 p.m.
None of the Lancaster schools have air conditioning, but the biggest concern Friday was the elementary school on West Maple Street, which is a two-story building.
A heat wave in southern Wisconsin this week had temperatures reaching upper 80s, some areas are forecasted to reach 90 degrees or above Friday afternoon. On Friday afternoon, heat advisories were issued for Grant and multiple other counties throughout the state including Adams, Allamakee, Clayton, Crawford, Delaware, Dubuque, Jo Daviess, Juneau, La Crosse, Monroe, Richland and Vernon.
