Heat advisory issued for southern Wisconsin

Heat indexes to go above 105

MADISON, Wis. — Madison may hit the 100-degree mark for the fifth time this year Wednesday, and the National Weather Service is advising people to take it easy.

The agency has issued a heat advisory for temperatures that are expected to reach 100 by the end of the day. That, combined with increased humidity, could send the heat index up to between 103 and 108.

Madison is already on pace to have a record breaking summer with the heat. Madison had not reached the 100 degree mark since 1995 before this year. This year, the city may reach that temperature five times before the end of July.

A cold front could bring isolated thunderstorms to southern Wisconsin by the end of the day, along with some relief from the heat.  The temperature is not expected to reach 90 again in Madison until early next week.
