Haans E. Walstead, 79, of Avoca died Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Madison.

He was born on January 26, 1933 the son of Clarence and Adelta (Hamilton) Walstead.

Haans served in the US Army in Korea serving as a Military Policeman. On October 13, 1956 Haans married Susanne Keller in Avoca. He worked for over 40 years as a roofer. Haans enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards.

Haans is survived by his wife Susanne, five children, Karen Lee of Boscobel, Diane Hebgen of Arizona, Cindy ‘Squeak’ (Tim) Mc Guigan of Lone Rock, Odie Walstead of Avoca, Darren (Denise) Walstead of Muscoda, 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 3 siblings, Donna (Robert) Franklin of Avoca, Clifford (Clarice) Walstead of Muscoda, Norma Sailing of Avoca, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Haans was preceded in death by his parents, one brother-in-law Dick Sailing.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Avoca with Reverend Steven C. Schneider officiating.

Burial will follow in the Avoca Cemetery with military graveside rites provided by the Avoca American Legion and VFW Posts.

Friends may call on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at St. John’s Lutheran Church from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM.

The Godager Pratt Funeral Home of Muscoda is assisting the family with their arrangements.
