Gyro shop worker shoots man over stolen cocaine, complaint says

A Gyro shop worker faces multiple charges after shooting a man who tried stealing cocaine from him Monday afternoon, according to a criminal complaint.

Eric C. Howard, 37, was arrested Monday immediately after a shooting around 2:15 p.m. at Capitol Petro Mart , police said.

A 34-year-old man was shot inside the gas station, according to a release. He was taken to a hospital and was listed in stable condition with a gunshot wound.

According to a criminal complaint, Howard had been selling cocaine out of Spartan Gyros over the previous week starting at $100 a bag. He planned on selling a $1,300 bag to the victim.

Howard told police he shot the man because he was trying to run away with a kilo of cocaine without paying him.

Police said they found more than 60 grams of cocaine in baggies, a digital scale and two loaded handguns when they searched the gyro shop.

Howard was charged Wednesday with first-degree recklessly endangering safety, possession with intent to deliver cocaine and carrying a concealed weapon. He will be back in court Oct. 5.
