Gun, $190K, suspected pot seized from Packers DT’s truck
Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Letroy Guion was arrested Tuesday after police in Florida reportedly found 357 grams of marijuana in his vehicle, according to a release.
The Starke Police Department said an officer stopped a 2015 Dodge Ram truck on suspicion of failure to maintain a single lane near North Temple Avenue in Starke, Florida, at 11:03 p.m.
According to the news release received Wednesday afternoon, the officer “could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.”
Police said that as the officer approached the truck, 27-year-old Guion, who was partially hanging out of the driver’s window, asked him if he knew who he was. Guion’s behavior and the smell of pot led the officer to ask Guion to get out of the truck, and the officer called for backup.
Guion told the officer he had a firearm registered to him in the vehicle. Once backup arrived, the officer searched the vehicle based on probable cause from the smell of marijuana coming from the truck.
A 9 mm semi-automatic handgun was found in the truck and was seized.
As police continued to search the vehicle, Guion became “extremely uncooperative and hostile,” according to the report. Guion “kept coming towards the vehicle several times, saying, ‘Hey man, my money is in there. Don’t let him take my money.'” Guion reportedly tried to remove a black bag from the front passenger seat.
The bag was partially unzipped, and the officer saw a green leafy substance that appeared to be marijuana inside it, the report said.
Samples of the green leafy plant found inside two clear plastic bags within the black back tested positive for marijuana, Starke police said. The suspected pot in the bags weighed a combined 357 grams.
Guion was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of marijuana, since the weight of the suspected pot exceeded 20 grams, the report noted.
Officers also found a total of $190,028.81 in cash in the black bag, police said.
Since the money was in the same bag as the large quantity of marijuana, the cash was seized and secured along with the gun, the suspected pot and other items from the truck. The Dodge Ram was also towed and secured, police said.
Guion was charged with felony possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony in addition to the felony pot possession charge.
Guion appeared in court Wednesday morning and bond was set at $100,000, Starke police said.
Police also provided a photo of the items seized from Guion’s truck Tuesday.
Guion signed with the Packers last year after six seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, according to the Packers’ website.
In a statement Wednesday, Packers spokesman Jason Wahlers said the team was informed of Guion’s arrest.
“We are aware of a serious matter involving Letroy Guion,” Wahlers said. “We have not yet spoken to Letroy and we will have no further comment.”
Online records show that Guion’s home address is in De Pere, Wisconsin.
