Grant will help Madison College expand stem cell program

Officials announced Thursday that Madison College got a $661,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to improve and expand the stem cell technology and regenerative medicine program.

The grant, which is a collaborative project with the City College of San Francisco, will educate and prepare stem cell technology professionals and provide pre-college educators with materials for science and technology courses, according to a release.

Stem cells offer tremendous promise in the understanding of how diseases occur, officials said. They’re also helping researchers develop new treatments for medical disorders.
