Graco recalls millions of strollers after fingertip amputations

Eleven models affected

MADISON, Wis. — Graco announced a nationwide stroller recall, following six reports of fingertip amputations.

The company is recalling 4.7 million strollers in the United States, more than 200,000 strollers in Canada and around 10,000 strollers in Mexico.

All models are a single-child stroller that has an external sliding fold-lock hinge on each side. There’s also a one-hand fold release mechanism on the handle.

Graco says the folding hinge on the sides can pinch a child’s finger.

So far, there have been six reports of fingertip amputation, four reports of partial fingertip amputation and one finger laceration.

The 11 models include Graco and Century brand strollers.

Graco says strollers manufactured between Aug. 1, 2000 to Sept. 25, 2014 are under this recall.

Customers can find model numbers and manufacture dates on the white label located at the bottom of a stroller leg that is above the rear wheel.

Graco is offering a free repair kit, beginning in December. In the meantime, Graco says parents should ensure all hinges are firmly locked before putting a child in the stroller.

Target, Toys R Us, Walmart and Amazon.com are among the retailers that sold these models.
