Gordon Paul Bemis, age 64, passed away on Wed., Feb. 3 2016, after an extended illness at Theda Care Medical Center in Waupaca. He was the first child born to Donald H. and Alice M. (Clapps) Bemis on March 23, 1951, in Selma, Alabama.

Gordy grew up in Madison attending Schenk and LaFollette schools, but when his father retired from the military the family moved to Mount Horeb where he completed his senior year. Gordy along with his brother Tom and a couple classmates enlisted in the United States Air Force and left a few days after graduation. He served in the US Air force for 13 years and eventually enlisted in the US Navy. Gordy had a variety of interests including hunting, fishing and loved riding motorcycles with his father. He was always the prankster and enjoyed life to the fullest. Gordy and his brother Tom were inseparable and later in life they lived together for many years.

He is survived by his mother, Alice Bemis, Mount Horeb; sisters, Romona (Jimmie) Fedderly, Mountain Home, Arkansas and Joan (Thomas) Laufenberg, Waunakee; sons, Lloyd and Paul Bemis, Verona and many nieces and nephews. Gordy was preceded in death by his father Donald; his brother Thomas; a brother-in-law John Acuff and a nephew, Dusty Acuff.

Private family services will be held at Central Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, King, Wi., where Gordy and his brother Tom will be laid to rest side by side with military rites accorded.
