The chief executive officer of a Madison-based health cooperative has resigned, the group said Friday morning.

Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin officials said in a news release that Kevin Hayden resigned as CEO.

A statement from GHC board president Ken Machtan said the board “wishes to move in a different direction,” and Hayden was voluntarily moving on from the position.

Hayden had been CEO for two years, according to the release.

The board appointed Dr. Mark Huth, GHC’s chief medical officer, as CEO while the board searches for Hayden’s replacement.

GHC said it is a nonprofit health plan that cares for 82,000 members and has served the Dane County area for nearly 40 years providing insurance and clinical services.
