George “Alex” DeGolyer

MADISON – George “Alex” DeGolyer, age 70, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017. He was born on June 28, 1947, the son of Henry and Cleobelle (Moore) DeGolyer. He married Pamela Cripe on July 12, 1974. Alex proudly served in the U.S. Army. He received his Bachelor’s Degree at Appalachian Bible College, and his Master of Divinity Degree from Grace Seminary. Alex and Pam started their ministry together working as home missionaries for two years with Rural Home Missionary Association. Alex also served as Associate Pastor of Argos Congregational Christian Church in Argos, Indiana; Pastor of West Madison Bible Church in Madison; Pastor of Hartford Federated Church in Michigan; and Pastor of Verona Christian Fellowship Church in Verona, Wisconsin. Later in life, Alex started his own cleaning business in the Madison area. In recent years he was active with Gateway Community Church. Alex had a strong relationship with the Lord; his faith in Christ was very important to him. He truly had the gift of hospitality – he never met a stranger! Alex enjoyed reading, cooking and cribbage. He had a great sense of humor and loved “hanging out” with family and friends. His recent passion was interacting with other veterans at the Dryhootch Coffee House in Madison. Alex is survived by his wife, Pam; children, Amber, Alasa (Shane) Wiest, David and Micah DeGolyer; grandsons, Hunter and Saxton Wiest; and sister, Ada (Steve) Sewell. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Hank DeGolyer. A memorial service will be held at GATEWAY COMMUNITY CHURCH, 3510 High Road, Middleton, at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2017.
