Four adults, two kids displaced by early morning fire in Madison

Six people are displaced following an early morning fire on Madison’s east side.

Firefighters were dispatched to a 4-unit apartment building on the 2900 block of Hoard Street. They arrived around 4:15 a.m. to find black smoke coming from the back side of the building, according to a release by the department. Crews were able to get the fire out within eight minutes of arriving on scene, according to Bernadette Galvez, a spokesperson with the Madison Fire Department.

Four adults and two young children were able to get out safely after hearing smoke alarms, Galvez said. The American Red Cross is helping them.

There is no word yet on a cause of the fire. Investigations remain on scene.
