Food delivery drivers targeted in Madison robberies, police say

MADISON, Wis. — Food delivery drivers are being targeted by thieves, Madison police said.

Madison police said Monday west district detectives are looking at possible connections between four recent strong-armed robberies in which food delivery drivers were targeted after being sent to addresses in the 6500 block of Raymond Road.

The robberies took place between April 1 and Thursday.

Police said at about 5 p.m. on April 1, a delivery driver was assaulted and robbed.

On April 10, around 9 p.m., a delivery driver’s cellphone was taken.

At about 6 p.m. on April 14, a driver was confronted, but the victim was able to get away, according to the report.

On Thursday, at around 9:25 p.m. a delivery driver was assaulted and robbed.

In the four cases, there have been between one and three suspects, police said. In several crimes, the driver was asked to make change before the robbery. In a couple of the cases, suspects were looking to take both money and food.

“We are advising restaurants in the West District area that these have been taking place in a very concentrated area on Raymond Road, and if they’re getting calls to make deliveries here to let us know, so maybe we can check things out as well and make sure it’s on the up and up,” Madison police spokesman Joel DeSpain said.
