While a lot of people have the luxury of driving themselves, others don’t have access to reliable transportation or simply can’t drive.

Thad Schumacher, the owner of Fitchburg Family Pharmacy, is seeking to change that.

“We have a mission here of serving our community here at Fitchburg Family Pharmacy,” Schumacher said.

For the first time, Schumacher is making the effort to get as many people out to the polls as possible this election season by offering free rides to anyone who needs them.

“If that’s what we need to do to help people out, that’s what we’ll do,” he said. “There’s nothing more that we can do than to help people get to the polls so they can have their voice heard so they can be represented by the people they choose.”

You don’t have to be a patient or customer to get that free ride.

“They don’t have to have any prerequisites, we’re not going to ask any questions. We are just going to meet people where they are,” he said.

Schumacher said he already has one driver ready to go. Debra Anderson is a driver for the pharmacy already. She drops off prescriptions to people who can’t go out and pick them up on their own.

On Nov.6, she will be making rounds to pick people up and get as many people to the polling places as possible.

“It doesn’t matter. If we only give one person a ride, it makes a difference. One vote makes a difference anywhere,” Anderson said.

Schumacher said if they get too many calls that day for Anderson to handle, several of Schumacher’s customers have already volunteered to drive people that day as well.

“We’ll give them a ride no matter who you are, or what you are,” Anderson said. “As long as you’re ready to vote, we’ll get you there!”

Schumacher said he prefers if people call in advance to schedule a pickup location, but you are allowed to call the day of. The number to call is 608-274-3784.
