Fitchburg community members announce recall effort against mayor

FITCHBURG, Wis. — Fitchburg community members announced a recall effort Tuesday against recently elected mayor Jason Gonzalez, emphasizing concerns that he took nonprofit funding out of the 2018 city budget.
Although Gonzalez cannot be recalled until spring, since officials must serve at least a year before any recall election, several African-American community leaders announced in a press release Monday that they are beginning efforts now.
“The Mayor has refused to meet with Fitchburg residents. We (are) demanding that Boys & Girls Club funding is restored, the funding from CEDA to support kids in King James Way is restored, and that the Badger Prairie Needs Network funding is restored. We demand that he meet with us immediately or we are starting this process,” community leaders said in the release.
