FIRST LOOK: A peek inside the new, $10.5 million Pinney Library
MADISON, Wis.– Seven years and $10.5 million later, the new Pinney library is getting ready to reopen to families on Madison’s east side.
The new branch of the Madison Public Library is in the Royster Corners building at Cottage Grove Road and Dempsey Road, a few blocks down from the temporary location where Pinney housed its books for the last year.
The temporary location closed mid-February so library staff could begin moving in to the new space.
The new Pinney library is bigger and brighter, with a focus on new technology. It’s also home to many first for the Madison library system: a play space for kids 5 and under, outdoor space, gender-neutral bathrooms, a drive-thru book drop, geo-thermal heating and cooling, and wood ceilings and other finishes made from reclaimed ash salvaged from Wisconsin trees cut down to stop the spread of the emerald ash borer.
The library officially opens on March 12.
