First babies of new year born at Madison hospitals

MADISON, Wis. — Some Madison area parents are starting 2023 with new bundles of joy.

At 1:53 a.m., Anna Davila and Evan Schnaitman welcomed baby Jack to the world. The 7 pound, 7 ounce baby is the couple’s second child.

“His older brother Nico has a due date that was close to his,” Davila said. “He was born on the 22nd of December. We were trying to dodge that and Christmas and [Nico’s] and he came on New Year’s Day, which is sort of a nice little gift.”

The second-time parents said the timing of their son’s birth is reflective of all the new, good things coming their way.

“We’re excited to experience the newborn moments all over again,” Davila said. “His brother is at a really fun age right now, too. It just keeps getting better and better every year, I feel like.”

Shiloh, the first baby born at UnityPoint Health – Meriter Hospital arrived at 2:55 a.m. Shiloh weighs 6 pounds, 9 ounces and measures 20 inches long.
