Fire damages Evansville home

A home in Evansville sustains fire damage Friday afternoon.
Evansville firefighters were called to a two-unit home on the corner of West Liberty and South Third streets at 1:40 p.m.
Assistant fire Chief Dennis Cooper said it appeared the fire started on the first level of the home. When crews arrived, flames were coming from the porch on the first level. The fire spread to the second floor and into the roof.
A second-level resident was home when the fire began; she heard the fire alarms and was able to exit the home.
Cooper said there were pets in the home, but the animals had not been accounted for as of Friday afternoon.
Crews were still at the scene putting out hotspots at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
Firefighters from Edgerton, Brooklyn, Footville, Albany and Janesville were called in to assist.
