Two men are facing charges after getting into a fight at a soccer game in Darlington in early May, Darlington police said.

Darlington police went to the Darlington Elementary-Middle School for a physical fight between two spectators at a championship soccer game May 9 around 5:30 p.m., according to a release.

Police said William Zayas, 23, of Galena, Illinois, initially fled the scene.

Zayas allegedly knocked 32-year-old Jairo Andrade-Aquirre, from South Wayne, to the ground and kicked him in the face at the soccer game, Darlington police said.

Investigators said they believe Andrade-Aquirre provoked the attack by hitting Zayas first.

Andrade-Aquirre was taken to Memorial Hospital with several fractures to his face, a broken tooth and severe bruising, officials said.

Darlington police are pursuing charges of disorderly conduct and battery for Zayas and Andrade-Aquirre.
